Chairman’s column
I was lucky enough to spend the WI Birthday (September 16) with some of my fellow members on a trip to the National Memorial Arboretum, another event organised by the federation’s EAT. What an amazing place.
While we were there, we met at the WI memorial and sang Jerusalem. We were joined by some members of Nottinghamshire Federation too.
It is that meeting together and mutual support that makes our organisation what it is. Happy 108th birthday WI.
As a federation, we are always trying to make things we do and things we use greener and more sustainable. At our recent trustee meeting, Jean Burgess presented a fantastic project for Christmas cards (or birthday cards for that matter) – bunting.
The cards are cut into triangles and ribbon is used to make up the string of bunting. Some brads (split pins) are used to decorate the ribbon and hold the triangles in place.
The top-tip is to make a template (or use a die cutting machine) to make sure all the triangles are the same and that you can make the most from your cards.
I still have last year’s Christmas cards in a bag, so that will keep me quiet for a little while ……. well maybe not.
Take care as always
Dianne
