CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN:
Well, what a roller-coaster month July was. With the easing of Covid restrictions being delayed and the weather not being able to decide what season we were in – no change there then.
It has been great to see many members managing to have ‘al-fresco’ gatherings. Now, hopefully, every-one can start to plan for meetings once again, although there may be some who are reluctant to meet in larger groups and we all need to be mindful of that.
The Federation Events committee has been working hard on plans for activities and outings, both for this autumn and throughout 2022. It is hoped many of the 2020 planned events that had to be cancelled can be revived next year, so keep an eye in the WI News, on the Federation Facebook page and at the regular mailings sent out to secretaries so you don’t miss anything.
If you have any ideas for events, then please get in touch with the office – and if you would like to help create forthcoming programmes why not speak to our federation secretary Sue Bain or events chairman Paula Burrett about being part of the organising committee.
Our tag line is WI Inspiring Women and we will be celebrating one such inspiring woman in September.
On Saturday September 25, the Federation will be marking the 100th anniversary of Margaret Wintringham becoming the first British-born woman to take a seat in the House of Commons – and of course, she was a WI member in our own Federation.
It was on September 22, 1921 when Mrs Wintringham became MP for Louth – so it is fitting that this event will be held in Louth Town Hall, and what better way to celebrate this remarkable achievement than with an afternoon tea? The event will run from 2pm to 4pm, with doors opening at 1.30pm. The cost is £15 per ticket and bookings are being taken now.
I hope to see some of you there or at the upcoming Ladies of Lincolnshire Lunch events.
Take care. Dianne.
